Chris Gurney
Welcome to my website

My name is Chris Gurney, and I live in Warkworth, New Zealand. I write stories for children (and their grown-ups), which sometimes magically turn into books IF I'm lucky!

I enjoy writing in rhyme and rhythm, with interesting words, often using alliteration or onomatopoeia.

This website will tell you about the books I've had published. Many of them have been part of Scholastic's 'Kiwi Corkers' series, which tell traditional tales with a Kiwi twist. The website gives you different little snippets and information about the stories behind the stories. There are links to activities based on the books or related online information.

I also tell you a bit about myself from a child who was passionate about books and writing. Then my scribbling through the years until I had my first book published in 2009. I'm still writing and hoping. I still have much to learn. I have stories rejected regularly. But even though it's exciting having a book published, the pleasure of writing comes from within.

For any aspiring writers, I have compiled a list of tips for you, which I have generally learned the hard way!

You can find information about my author visits, and view some pictures in the gallery of the things we get up to.

Many of my books can be purchased online if you cannot find them in your local bookstore.

If you want to know more about my writing or share something with me, send me an email. I'd love to hear from you!
